The Mixels Wiki aims to be a comprehensive and complete encyclopedia of all subject matters related to the Mixels franchise. The wiki features articles based on characters, episodes, games, songs, and more. Articles pertaining to fictional aspects of the franchise - such as characters or in-universe aspects - are written from an in-universe perspective; whereas articles based on real items - such as the Mixels toy-line - are written from an out-of-universe perspective.

The wiki primarily consists of mainspace articles, images, videos and audio. The wiki also holds non-mainspace articles, such as user profiles, special pages, wiki activity, and more.

The wiki is maintained by volunteer collaborative editors registered for a FANDOM account. The wiki is accessible in a read-only state for users not registered with a FANDOM account.[1]

Users

Users registered for a FANDOM account are able to edit almost all wiki articles for any reason. Registered users are also able to participate in votes (with specific criteria under wiki policies), and engage with social features. Registered users are also able to edit and fully customize their own user profile page.

History

2013

Shortly after the announcement of the intertwined Mixels toy-line and television series at San Diego Comic-Con International 2013, lifelong LEGO fan Green Ninja founded the wiki; a database that would act as the easiest access point of information related to every aspect of the franchise. With what little information existed at the time, the foundations of the wiki were set up.

Throughout most of the year, the wiki remained inactive with its small amount of content. In September, Ray422 was the first user to become an administrator after requesting such permissions, but was later demoted due to inactivity. Following the reveal of Series 1 in full through a German magazine in December, more information was added ahead of the franchise's imminent launch.[2]

2014

In February, the franchise kicked off with the premiere of the TV series, with the wiki following suit as it saw an increase in traffic from both readers and editors. More articles were created around this time as the wiki's foundations were expanded upon.

March marked the debut of Series 1 LEGO sets, bringing in even more traffic to the wiki. Also this month began The Monthly Mix, a monthly news blog by Green Ninja.[3] Techman129, MaeManuel1, and MixedSerpent were all given administrator permissions at this time, but the former two were subsequently demoted due to inactivity and the latter would later become the wiki's second bureaucrat.

As summer began, the wiki policy was finalized. Lavaguy64 and Boogly22238 were both promoted to administrators. Votes began to be held for community decisions, featured articles, and featured images. Many moderators for the wiki chat were brought on at this time, which had become the primary social area for the community, even more so than the forums. CubitsZone was set up and intended to replace The Monthly Mix, however, this did not last and it was quickly abandoned before being deleted and subsequently lost.[4] A Twitter page for the wiki was set up.[5] The wiki would later be connected with other Cartoon Network wikis, linked to on the wiki's main page.[6]

ZootyCutie soon became the third bureaucrat in September, with SlushoSnack48 following soon after. Bar-B-Cubes were entered in a FANDOM-held competition titled the 'Battle of the Fantasy Foods', but lost the first round.[7] Following intense spam, article comments were disabled, and soon after, anonymous contributors were barred from the wiki after a community vote.[8][1]

The next month, Mixtober began as a community event.[9] Around this time, a YouTube channel was also set up for the wiki. Maxcast soon began, a podcast discussing news related to the franchise.[10] A second episode was later recorded featuring other members of the community, however, the recording was lost.[11] Admin CMRdaawesomeguy was demoted after being temporarily blocked across FANDOM.

As the year winded down, Maxcember kept users occupied.[12] Bureaucrat MixedSerpent retired from his staff role and would later leave the wiki. With Series 4 on the horizon, the wiki was gearing up for an even bigger year.

The second year of Mixels began, and the wiki grew accordingly. Although January proved to be a slow month, the wiki reached 500 articles. With Boogly22238 as a correspondent, the Mixels Wiki reported from London Toy Fair.[13] Bourgeoisie was given administrator permissions, and used them to vastly improve the wiki's interface.[14] With the return of the TV series and launch of Series 4 sets, celebrations were held across the wiki.[15] Bogo soon took the wiki by storm, becoming a mascot of sorts.

Soon, the wiki's Tumblr blog was changed following complications in management. A fandom survey was held.[16] Across the wiki, various header templates were removed from articles. With the help of Brickimedia, the Mixels Wiki received review copies of Series 5 sets directly from LEGO, which were reviewed by ZootyCutie, ToaMatau2004, and Boogly22238.[17] At this time, Brickimedia and the Mixels Wiki formed a partnership. ToaMatau2004 and Boogly22238 soon became bureaucrats. Green Ninja soon became a member of staff on LEGO fan-site Brickset, where he would review Series 5 and be in charge of Mixels reviews for the rest of the line's life.[18]

Mixel Park - a fan-site similar to the failed CubitsZone - was set up, which would soon fall inactive and be left unused.[19] Add-on features - referred to as "hacks" - for the live chat feature were introduced. Staff member PoolPyro reported from San Diego Comic-Con, where Series 7 was announced.[20] FANDOM's "Weirdly Awesome Character Bracket" competition was held, where Vaka-Waka made considerable progress.[21]

Due to copyright strikes from both Cartoon Network and LEGO, the Mixels Wiki's YouTube channel was terminated shortly after it had reached 3,000 subscribers.[22] A new channel was quickly set up, although various videos were lost. As the year continued, Vaktober was held to keep community engagement high, with Maxcember returning soon after.[23][24]

With the year coming to a close, a community's choice awards competition was held to celebrate users, articles, and the franchise as a whole.[25] The community started reflecting while the second year of the franchise came to a close.[26]

2016

As the year began, a vote for a new chat moderator was held.[27] ToaMatau2004 was removed from his bureaucrat position after a community vote.[28] With the long hiatuses in between episodes of Mixels, wiki activity had dropped from both a reader and editor's perspective. The chat gradually became more and more inactive, with users opting to use off-site chat methods such as Twitter. However, this was not the case as the TV show returned and a chat party was held while Every Knight Has Its Day premiered.

Shortly following, the concept of placeholder names was introduced for the many nameless background characters that had appeared in the show. Taking names from the community and voting on them, names for each background character were decided on and used across articles.[29] Operation: Gallery began, a project aiming to clean up galleries across the wiki and was largely successful in garnering editor activity.[30] The revived YouTube channel for the wiki soon reached 1,000 subscribers.[31]

San Diego Comic Con came and went without a presence of Mixels, and shortly after it became clear, confirmation soon came that the franchise was coming to an end.[32][33] A celebration of the franchise was held, and a new policy on leaks was established.[34][35]

As Mixels came to a close, the wiki's activity significantly dropped. No end of year celebrations were held.

2017 onwards

As 2017 began, the wiki saw a decline in both editor and reader traffic due to the franchise's end. Around this time, the wiki partnered with the Unikitty! Wiki, where a number of community members had migrated to. Since 2018, ZootyCutie and CMRdaawesomeguy have largely been the only active staff members, making improvements to the wiki even after the franchise's closure. Later in the year, the Mixels Wiki Discord server was created, uniting both new and old users.[36] As it grew in activity, the server became the central hub for wiki discussion and decisions, with any votes and their discussion being migrated there. The wiki was also linked through the FANDOM Television Wiki Footer, bringing in more traffic to the wiki.

2019 saw the beginning of fan-project Mixels Unite, leading to an all-time high engagement within the Mixels fan community. Due to this boost in popularity, the wiki too saw an increase in traffic, and in some cases, editors. The project quickly became a requested article, leading to the creation of one such article as well as other pages based around unofficial articles following community support. Later in the year, a reunion party occurred on the wiki chat, with over thirty users attending following years of inactivity in the chat.[37][38] This would be the second-last major usage of the feature on this wiki.

While editor traffic remained the same, 2020 saw an increase in reader traffic, largely thanks to the peak of Mixels Unite's popularity. As FANDOM geared up for a major change to its platform, it was announced that the live chat feature would be discontinued. In the summer of the year, one final chat party was held, with even more users in attendance than the last.[39] In 2021, all classic infoboxes across the wiki began to be phased out in favor of portable infoboxes. Some months later, articles focused on individual Crew members were removed following a request from a crew member to have their information removed, prompting an evaluation of all other articles in addition.

2024 saw the introduction of the content moderator staff position, first given to Evanoli17 and later Benseghir07.

Criticism

As most wikis often are, the Mixels Wiki has been subject to criticism. Persisting throughout the wiki's life has been vandalism, as well as many unhelpful edits bringing misinformation to articles. Huw, an administrator of LEGO fan-site Brickset, has criticized the wiki for some inaccurate information in its earlier days, prompting cleanup of articles.[41][42]
