Storyline

Major Nixel presents to King Nixel his newest scheme: to separate the Mixels by using the Cloud Ship to create a Nixelstorm to scatter the Mixels around Planet Mixel, as they are at their weakest when they are separated. The plan works, but the power of the Nixelstorm scatters the storm's control switches around the lands.

Various Mixels escape the Nixelstorm and find the controls, managing to weaken it. The Cloud Ship is caught up with in Infernite Land and the Mixels cause it to crash. Major Nixel repairs the ship as King Nixel announces his impending arrival. Even with King Nixel aboard, the plan fails and the Mixels cause the Cloud Ship to crash again in Glorp Corp Land, now for good. Escaping, Major Nixel pleads to King Nixel that the plan will work and that they just need more time, but the king grows angry and decides to take matters into his own hands.

Mixels Rush is a side-scrolling game based around guiding Mixels to the end of a level. In a level, the player begins as a set Mixel being chased by the Nixelstorm, and must strategize in order to escape it and reach the end of the level - marked by a controller for the Nixelstorm. Mixels and items can be found floating in levels, where tapping them will send them to the player's ten-item inventory.

While running, the player must react to hazards, such as differently themed floors and obstacles. Each floor is themed around a different tribe and a corresponding Mixel will run faster along said floor, while a Mixel not of that tribe will slow down. Levels often place two opposing floors next to one another, prompting the player to drag two Mixels together to Mix them and gain the ability to run across both floors with haste. Randomly, two Mixels will Murp, which will trudge slowly along any floor for a brief time. If the player drags together three Mixels of a tribe, they will Max. A Max lasts for a fixed time and runs at top speed across any floor, additionally destroying any obstacles in the way. When a Mixel encounters an obstacle, they will slowly chip away at it, prompting the player to help by tapping the screen. There are two types of obstacles: blockading obstacles and weighted obstacles. Blockading obstacles must be broken by the player and weighted obstacles must have attached balloons inflated to lift away the obstacle.

There are a variety of items that the player collects that will greatly assist in completing a level. Flight boots will speed up a Mixel, while magic wands can be used to teleport a set distance away, phasing through obstacles if any are present. A remote control can be used to remove a single obstacle in front of the player. Magnets will automatically collect all items around the player for a set duration, while a flute will do the same for Mixels. Lastly, there is a paint can item that will cover over a set amount of oncoming floors, and an hourglass that will freeze the Nixelstorm for a set duration.

Each level contains different objectives that are not necessary for completion, but will grant a collectible card when all are achieved. These can range from making a certain amount of Mixes, forming a specific Max or Mix, or using certain items a number of times.

Levels

Main article: Mixels Rush/Levels

Mixels Rush contains sixty-three levels, seven for each land and nine of which that are only unlocked after completing all objectives in an area. The final levels of each world is different, whereas the player chases the Nixels holding the controller, while the final levels of Infernite Land and Glorp Corp Land are boss fights, where the player chases after the Cloud Ship and must tap on either Major Nixel or King Nixel to deal damage.
